important scientific results obtained in IEP one should mention the pioneer
studies of the resonance structure in the energy dependences of inelastic
electron scattering cross-sections, new fundamental results on excitation and
ionization of inner shells for a variety of atoms. Detailed studies of
autoionizing states of atoms and ions, formation of multiple-charged ions in
the excited states, ionization of metal atoms inner shells have been
performed. We have achieved a high level of photonuclear reactions studies:
formation of isomeric states; fission and formation of delayed neutrons in
the range of E1 giant resonance; resistance of various materials and devices
to radiation; activation analysis. Lithium tetraborate and paratellurite
single crystals synthesised in our laboratories are used in lasers and other
devices. Thin films with high purity and small absorption coefficient for
optical laser elements have been developed. In the area of theoretical
studies the autoionizing states of He atom were classified; the structure of
low-energy inelastic electron scattering by alkali-like ions was interpreted;
new conservation laws in electrodynamics were found; the relationship between
the conservation laws for the fields with isotopic spin of 1/2 and 1 was

IEP possesses modern equipment,
original and unique devices including a 30-MeV electron accelerator
(microtron M-30), a setup with a gasdynamical source of atomic and molecular
beams; a setup for studies of emission and ionization of inner atomic shells
by 5 to 50 keV electrons. Besides, a Lambda Physics wide-range tunable laser,
the ultra-high vacuum (P=10
Torr) setups for surface studies,
devices for crystal growth and for thin films application, modern computers,
mass-spectrometric setups with high-resolution quadrupole and magnetic
analysers should be mentioned.

(Dr.Prof) and 39 Candidates of Sciences (Ph.D), working in the institute,
have published over 400 scientfic papers, 5 monographs, obtained more than 20
patents. On the basis of the institute 4 international and 4 national
scientific conferences have been held. In 1994 Prof. V.A. Kel'man, Prof. I.P.
Zapesochny and Dr. Yu.O. Shpenik, working in the institute, were awarded the
K. D. Synelnykov Prize of the Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences for
their studies in the field of quantum electronics. In 1995 Prof. I.P.
Zapesochny, Prof. O.B. Shpenik, Prof. A.I. Imre, Prof. A.N. Zavilopulo, Dr.
O.P. Sabad along with the scientists of Uzhgorod State University Prof. L.L.
Shimon, Prof. V.I. Lengyel, and Prof. I.P. Aleksakhin were awarded the State
Prize of Ukraine for their series of research works on the elementary
processes and resonant phenomena in pair collisions of electrons, atoms and
ions. In 2001 Prof. P.P.Puga, Dr. V.M. Golovey and Dr. B.M.Gunda,
working in the Institute, were awarded the

of Sciences for their studies in the field of processes of
recombination in optical materials for quantum electronics.
