Foreword

These proceedings contain contributions to the seminar Triangle’92 received by the organizing committee. We thank the speakers and writers for their contributions.

OPENING ADDRESS

        Dear colleagues,
    It is a great honour and a true pleasure for me to see you in our town. Present third Triangular Seminar has been being prepared for a long time. The Seminar coincides with the celebration of the opening of a new institute - the Institute of Electron Physics of Ukrainian Academy of Sciences.
    The main objective of our Institute is to advance fundamental theoretical and experimental research in atomic physics. We are greatly interested in establishing friendly scientific contacts and in active scientific collaboration with scientists of our neighboring countries.
    Two earlier seminars were held in Hungary, and the third is now in Ukraine. The efforts of our Seminars will be devoted to the important problems in collision physics, in particular:
- low-energy electron-atom collisions;
- heavy-particle collisions at low and intermediate energies;
- electron and Auger spectroscopy;
- cups electron production phenomena
    The main goal of the Seminar is to discuss specific problems of experimental atomic physics, as well as questions concerning the theoretical description of phenomena in atomic shells induced by collisional processes.
    I am glad to see Prof. L. Sarkadi and his colleagues from Debrecen, Prof. L. Szoter and his coworkers from Mislcolc, and our guest Prof. M. Yanson from the Latvian University as well as Prof. V. Senashenko and his coworkers from Moscow University.
    I hope that this Seminar will be interesting and fruitful.
